The Asian Games City Action plan is to consolidate all efforts in Games preparations, elevate the spirit of volunteering and improve the manners and conduct of local citizens, making Hangzhou the most energetic, welcoming and friendly host city. To this end, the Organising Committee is launching the International Etiquette Contest as part of its efforts to recruit Games volunteers and protocol staff. The specifics of the Call are as follows:

4. Contestants
Any natural person who follows and supports the preparations of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 and who loves sports and aspires to be a volunteer or protocol staff of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.
4.1 Category of Manners and Etiquette
4.1.1 Youth Group (over 8 and under 18 years old)
4.1.2 Adult Group (over 18 years old)
4.1.3 International Group (no age limit)
4.2 Category of Competition Services and Etiquette
4.2.1 Men’s Group (18 to 25 years old)
4.2.2 Women’s Group (18 to 25 years old)
The age of the contestants is determined as per the birth date on their ID cards (Chinese nationals) or passports (foreigners) by September 27, 2020.
5. Contest Categories
5.1 Category of manners and etiquette: the display of the citizens’ manners, knowledge of international etiquette and protocol, knowledge of Hangzhou’s history and culture, a speech on volunteering service, etc.
5.2 Category of competition services and etiquette: the display of competition services and etiquette, knowledge of competition services and etiquette, knowledge of international etiquette and protocol, knowledge of Hangzhou’s history and culture, an English speech, etc.
6. How to enter and submit materials
6.1 Online Registration
The registration for the contest will be open at HAGOC’s official website and WeChat account during the application period. Either way is available for the registration and the steps are as follows:
1. Registering through Wechat: Scan the official QR code of HAGOC and enter the registration page to get more contest information; download the registration form (see the attachment hereafter) as per the prompt on the page; after filling in the form, submit it with a 1*1.5 inch color photo and a presentation video to the official email address of HAGOC: wmlyds@hangzhou2022.cn or wmlyds@vip.163.com. Please note the email subject as “The International Etiquette Contest + Your Name + Presentation Video”.
2. Registering through the official website: Enter the contest feature page, and download the registration form (see the attachment hereafter); after filling in the form, submit it with a 1*1.5 inch color photo and a presentation video to the official email address of HAGOC: wmlyds@hangzhou2022.cn or wmlyds@vip.163.com. Please note the email subject as “The International Etiquette Contest + Your Name + Presentation Video”.
6.2 Offline Registration

6.3 Materials Required
Contestants should embrace the Olympic spirit and the theme of the Asian Games, displaying their understanding and skills of etiquette that they believe can represent the vibrant, hospitable and inclusive host city of Hangzhou.
6.3.1 Contestants should submit soft copies of the registration form, a 1*1.5 inch color photo and a presentation video to the officially designated email address.
6.3.2 Requirements on Presentation Video
All the entries should be MP4 videos with the total duration not more than two minutes and the resolution ratio not lower than 1920*1080.
6.3.2.1 Entries of category of manners and etiquette should include three parts, namely self-introduction in Chinese (within 30 seconds), speech on Citizens’ Good Conduct and ‘My Story As A Volunteer’. Centering on the Asian Games and etiquette, the subject matter should be original, the content creative.
6.3.2.2 Entries of category of competition services and etiquette should include a self-introduction in Chinese (within 30 seconds) and the presentation of etiquette (including standing posture, smile, handshake, bow and usher).
7. Awards
7.1 Awards for Those Qualified for the First Round
7.1.1 Category of Manners and Etiquette
For those qualified for the first round (50 for the youth group, 50 for the adult group and 20 for the international group): certificate of award by HAGOC and prize of Hangzhou Asian Games.
7.1.2 Category of Competition Services and Etiquette
For those qualified for the first round (altogether 100 for the men’s group and women’s group): certificate of award issued by HAGOC and prize of Hangzhou Asian Games.
7.2 Awards for Those Qualified for the Second Round
7.2.1 Category of Manners and Etiquette
Award of Excellence for those qualified for the second round (altogether 20 for the youth group, adult group and international group): a bonus of 1,000 Yuan for each award winner and the certificate of award issued by HAGOC.
7.2.2 Category of Competition Services and Etiquette
Award of Excellence for those qualified for the second round (altogether 20 for the men’s group and women’s group): a bonus of 2,000 Yuan for each award winner and the certificate of award issued by HAGOC.
7.3 Awards for Finalists
7.3.1 Category of Manners and Etiquette
Receive the title of the Star of Manners and Etiquette of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 (altogether 10 for the youth group, adult group and international group): a bonus of 5,000 Yuan for each finalist and the certificate of award by HAGOC.
7.3.2 Category of Competition Services and Etiquette
Receive the title of the Star of Competition Services and Etiquette of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 (altogether 10 for the men’s group and women’s group): a bonus of 10,000 Yuan for each finalist and the certificate of award by HAGOC.
(Note: The bonus should be awarded without accumulation to the contestants qualified for the next round, subject to the maximum amount of bonus. The bonus mentioned above is pretax.)
8. Contest
8.1 Registration (September 27, 2020 – February 10, 2021): release the information and schedule of the competition and open for registration.
8.2 Audition (late February 2021): select 100 for the youth group, 100 for the adult group and 50 for the international group from the category of manners and etiquette and altogether 200 for the men’s group and women’s group from the category of competition services and etiquette after an evaluation of the presentation videos submitted.
8.3 The First Round (March 2021 – May 2021): select 50 for the youth group, 50 for the adult group and 20 for the international group from the category of Manners and etiquette and altogether 100 for the men’s group and women’s group from the category of competition services and etiquette for competition in the second round.
8.4 The Second Round (June 2021 – August 2021): select altogether 20 from the category of manners and etiquette (9 for the youth group, 9 for the adult group and 2 for the international group) and altogether 20 for the men’s group and women’s group from the category of competition services and etiquette for in the final. Pre-final training will be conducted.
8.5 The Final and the Award Ceremony (September 2021): 10 Stars of Manners and Etiquette and 10 Stars of Competition Services and Etiquette of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 will be selected.
9. Application of Contest Results
Excellent contestants will be recommended with priority to work as volunteers and protocol staff for the Asian Games by HAGOC.
10. Notes
10.1 All the participants shall ensure that the registration information submitted is faithful and valid, or HAGOC has the right to cancel the contestant’s qualification. By registering the contest, all the participants will be considered to consent to HAGOC’s handling of their personal information only for the contest preparation purpose.
10.2 The registration becomes effective with the approval of the headquarters of the Contest (taking HAGOC’s notice as final). Once the registration goes into effect, all the participants should comply with the arrangement and the rules of the contest. The headquarters reserves the right to cancel the qualification of any contestant.
10.3 The headquarters reserves the right to use all the entries and related materials without compensation for media and PR activities. For activities for the cause of public good, the headquarters can, without the participants’ prior express written consent, use the contestants’ portraits, pictures, images in performance, highlights, videos and audios from the process of selection.
10.4 All the entries and related materials will not be returned. Contestants should make a separate copy for backup.
10.5 For applicants under 18 years of age a signed consent by their legal guardian is required. (please see the registration forms attached hereafter)
10.6 If the specific content of the announcement is changed, the latest notice on HAGOC’s official website shall prevail.
10.7 HAGOC reserves the final interpretation right of the contest.
