Folk breaking seeds aim big for Hangzhou Asian Games

Breaking is the only shortlisted dancesport of Hangzhou Asian Games, and the most difficult event among types of street dance. Wei Chengran from Daliang Mountain of Sichuan develops street dance from a hobby into his career through persistent efforts and perseverance due to his love. Now, he is appointed as the director of the Training Committee of Zhejiang Street Dance Association, and leads more street dance youths to bigger stages.

Perseverance is necessary for Breaking

Around 2005, many folk youths of China were attracted by this fascinating dance, and Wei Chengran was one of them. He expressed his emotion by performing street dance. During the period, he concluded: "Street dance is just like a new world in that it involves worldly wisdom and responsibility of inheritance." He committed himself to learning all kinds of dance and conducted innovative choreography, which attracted more and more children to fall in love with street dance. In the process of teaching dance, he also gradually put into some education.

Strive to score high in Hangzhou Asian Games

In 2020, breaking was officially selected as the competition event of the Olympic Games, gaining the support from more parents, deeply favoured by youths. Wei Chengran led the team to establish Shaoxing Street Dancer Training Base. They continuously explored a more scientific and systematic teaching model in training. This year, he planed to lead Shaoxing Street Dance Team to compete for the gold medal at the provincial-level competition. Wei Chengran said: "Starting from this year, we will participate in China Street Dance League to prepare for the next Asian Games. It is hoped to have the opportunity to obtain the 'tickets' for the competitions of the Asian Games."
