In recent years, Ningbo has made remarkable achievements in competitive sports, listed in the first batch of "City of Olympic Champions" in China. Further efforts have also been made to improve the quality of public services for national fitness, creating a new trend of "fitness for all" in the whole society. 

Multi-measures to ensure access to fitness facilities

Ningbo has included the construction of public sports facilities in provincial and municipal governments' livelihood projects for many years, with noticeable results. The local people only need to spend as little as 1 yuan a day to work out in the fitness centre at their doorstep. There is complete fitness equipment such as boxing rings, treadmills, physical training areas, showers, and professional operation teams will provide guidance. Ningbo has now built 233 community fitness centres, adding nearly 300,000 square metres of sports facilities.

In addition, Ningbo also makes full use of the city's unused space to build a comprehensive sports park integrating fitness, culture and entertainment functions. People no longer have to worry about the places for fitness.

Activities to advocate a daily healthy lifestyle

Ningbo has also launched a campaign "one person, one sport" to promote sports and fitness training activities for the people. The activities are held in schools, government agencies, communities, enterprises and public institutions, giving every fellow citizen the opportunity to master a sports skill.

Various sports activities also provide the most suitable conditions for integrating fitness into people's daily life. Fitness for all has become a popular trend in Ningbo, as evidenced by various events and activities, such as the New Year's Day Run lasting from the 1980s to the present, Ningbo Football Association Cup Tournament held consecutively for dozens of times, Ningbo City Wide Games, Community Games and the Beautiful Countryside Fitness Walk.

From downtown to the countryside, sports are quietly changing the city. With the help of sports, Ningbo is striving to become an international coastal metropolis.
