Artistic Swimming

2022/04/10 11:50

Artistic swimming is a sport with elegance and artistry.

The competition area is a 30m×25m pool at least 2.5 metres deep. A 12m×12m area in the centre of the pool shall not be less than 3 metres deep.

The athletes need to perform lifts, twists, pattern changes and other movements in the water, and no touch in the bottom of the pool will be allowed at any point during the routine. In addition, as the athletes must complete inverted movements underwater, they may wear nose clips or plugs to prevent an intake of water through the nostrils.

Artistic swimming at the Hangzhou Asian Games consists of two events: one in duet and another as part of team of four to eight athletes with at most two male athletes.

The referees score athletes' execution of elements and artistic impression of the performance. Technical controllers officiate in all routines to verify the difficulty and synchronisation of technical movements. The team with the highest score wins.

The artistic swimming of the Hangzhou Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Aquatic Sports Arena from October 6 to October 8, where the athletes will compete for 2 gold medals.
