Chess is a two players sport and is one of the world's most popular games. The game is played on a square chequered chessboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight square.

At the start, each player controls sixteen pieces.

The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, whereby the king is under immediate attack in all directions and there is no way to remove it in the next move.

The tradition of organized competitive chess started in the sixteenth century and has been continuously developing ever since. Chess was incorporated into the Asian Games in 2006.

The Chess event of the Hangzhou Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou Qi-Yuan (Zhili) Chess Hall from September 24 to October 7, and the athletes will compete for 4 gold medals.
