On April 11, Chinese para swimmer and Paralympic champion Jiang Yuyan came to Hangzhou World Foreign Language School to share her story of growing up and participating in the Paralympic Games and Asian Para Games with the students.
Jiang Yuyan lost her right arm and right leg in a car accident when she was three. Her parents introduced her to swimming, which not only brought the young girl out of the gloom of her physical impairment, but also unlocked her potential in this sport.
At the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, debutant Jiang Yuyan won three gold medals in the women's 50m Freestyle S6, 50m Butterfly S6 and 100m Freestyle S6, and broke two meet records. At the Tokyo Olympics, she won two gold, one silver and one bronze medals and broke three world records.
This year, the Zhejiang-born champion started to go all out for the Hangzhou Asian Para Games at "home". She said she was both a participant and a witness of this event. She was impressed by barrier-free facilities in the venues, which will help athletes with impairments achieve freedom of movement.
Talking about her goals for this year, she said, "I am determined to improve myself at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games and train hard to be on the top podium. Through my actions, I will show to the world China's charm and style."
