The idea of "economical" is followed through in preparing for Hangzhou Asian Games and the utilization of the existing facilities in a finer fashion helps present to the world a spectacular sports gala.
Most venues come via repurposing existing stadiums or gymnasiums. For instance, Hangzhou Dianzi University Gymnasium, to the needs of thefencing competition of the Games, preserves and reutilizes much of its equipment.
As for Zhejiang Gongshang University Sports Centre, the venue for handball, the original floor was removed and reused in a middle school in Hangzhou.
During the construction of many venues, priorities were given to the use of green building materials, proper management of construction waste, and the use of relevant technologies to save construction materials and energy. By optimizing the design of the building structure, the venues make full use of clean and renewable energy sources, such as natural lighting, recycled rainwater and reused heat.
Multiple goods needed for the Games are borrowed or rented rather than purchased.
"Items such as coffee machines and LED screens are rented from manufactures, and they will be returned after Hangzhou Asian Games,"according to Wu Danjun, deputydirectorof Main Operations Centre Executive Officeof Ningbo Xiangshan Competition Zone.
"'Economical' does not mean a downgrade in service quality, rather it means better utilizing resources for a better Asian Games,"Wu concluded.
