To be thrifty, the idea implemented across the whole designing and building of the Hangzhou Asian Games venues, guides designers to make full use of both existing venues and ones that are being constructed, for integrating and utilizing all resources. How thrifty is it of designers to build these venues? Hangzhou Dianzi University’s Gymnasium provides us with a window to the answer. Let’s have a look!
HDU’s gymnasium have been put into use since 2006, containing over 5,000 seats. When this gym was being renovated, all seats were taken off, numbered according to their different positions, cleaned and finally mounted back, which minimized the unnecessary spending and waste. As it was originally a basketball gym, following the principle of making it still useful after games, designers added a resilient floor and preseted two lighting systems to it, for this gym will be the fencing venue in Hangzhou Asian Games at the same time. In doing so, after this event, this gym can function as a ground not only for fencing but also for basketball and other sports.
Besides, after being dismounted and maintained, the LED screen that has worked for 7 years in this gym will continue to serve Hangzhou 2022 and Asian Para Games in the following days.
