During the 33rd Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly was held at Songdo Convensia on Saturday, on the sidelines of the 17th Asian Games. Indonesia signed of the host city contract for the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia, in 2018.

The 18th Asian Games took place over 16 days in Jakarta, Indonesia, from August 18 to September 2, 2018. Jakarta was the third capital city to win the right to host the second Asian Games after Bangkok and New Delhi. Palembang was the co-host city of the 2018 Asian Games. It had a total of 40 sports, including 32 Olympic sports and 8 non-Olympic sports. 45 countries and regions took part in the games. The slogan was "Energy of Asia".
