On May 15, the “Taste of Hangzhou” Asian Cuisine Festival opened in Hangzhou, while a themed exhibition “Meet in Hangzhou for the Asian Games in 2022” highlighting Asian Games elements was also unveiled in the central exhibition area outside the main venue.
What will happen when sport meets delicacies? To demonstrate the preparations for Hangzhou 2022 and promote the brand of the Asian Games as well as Hangzhou as a city for sports events, the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Organising Committee (HAGOC) took an active part in the preparations for the “Taste of Hangzhou” Asian Cuisine Festival. The ingenious and distinctive exhibits attracted visitors from home and abroad, who appreciated the exhibits and took pictures for memory.
The flag-handover ceremony at Jakarta 2018 marked the beginning of Hangzhou time for the Asian Games. At the opening ceremony of Asian Cuisine Festival, HAGOC exhibited the three Asian Games legacies received at the flag-handover ceremony: the flag, the torch of the 1st Asian Games and the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia, which became the crowd-pullers of the themed exhibition.
At the exhibition, there are creative food designs from Hangzhou and its co-hosting cities such as Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinhua, Shaoxing and Deqing. These food designs, including sculpted ham depicting equestrian events, macaroons printed with the emblem “Tides Surging”, osmanthus cakes in a Go board pattern and fondant cakes painted with different sports events, which perfectly combined creative delicacies with Hangzhou characteristics, the emblem of Hangzhou 2022 and Asian Games sports.
In addition to the creative delicacies and the Asian Games legacies, promotional videos, pictures of the Asian Games and extended visual designs of the Asian Games were also displayed at this exhibition “Meet in Hangzhou for the Asian Games in 2022” .
During the exhibition, the surprise appearance of the cartoon characters of Beijing Asian Games mascot Pan Pan and Guangzhou Asian Games mascots A Xiang, A He, A Ru, A Yi and Le Yangyang immediately drew the crowd in, as many guests shouted “so cute!” with delight. One may begin to wonder what the mascot of Hangzhou 2022 looks like. So stay tuned!
After the opening ceremony, this exhibition will be moved to Hangzhou Grand Theatre, where it will last from May 16 to 22.
In addition, the Asian Games Youth Art Works Exhibition, one of the events of “Meet in Hangzhou for the Asian Games+”, formally opened at Qiantang River Museum on May 15.
