From April 16 to 17, 2017, a delegation headed by OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah visited Hangzhou to inspect the preparations for the 19th Asian Games and held discussions with HAGOC.
On the morning of the 17th, Zhao Yide, Secretary of the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and Vice President of HAGOC, met with the OCA delegation.
Welcoming Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah and other members of his delegation, Zhao Yide briefed on Hangzhou’s role in the G20 Summit and the current status of the city’s economic and social development. He said Hangzhou remained confident in hosting a successful edition of the Asian Games. The preparatory work was progressing and the city would make every effort to deliver a “fantastic, successful and unforgettable sports gala” in 2022.
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah expressed full confidence in Hangzhou’s ability to deliver a successful edition of the Games. He said he was pleased to visit the city for the first time. He was impressed by its beauty and profound heritage. It is commendable that Hangzhou places high priority on the development of sports and focuses on building an international destination for sports events, conferences, and exhibitions. Hangzhou enjoys a wealth of Games-hosting experience, sound infrastructure as well as a solid social unity. Through the joint efforts of all the stakeholders, Hangzhou will surely deliver a fantastic, successful and high-tech edition of the Asian Games in 2022.
On the afternoon of the 17th, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah and Yang Shu’an, Vice Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, Cheng Yuechong, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, and Xu Liyi, Mayor of Hangzhou, jointly attended the unveiling ceremony for HAGOC’s office building located at 270 Tiyuchang Road.
